What are my incision options?
The Incision most frequently done is peri-areola also referred to as the nipple incision. Other options are transaxillary (arm-pit) incision, and Inframmory (under breast- fold in Inframammary crease). Transumbilical or Naval Incision can also be done, but is not done as frequently.
How long after surgery do I have to wait before I can…
Drive- As soon as you are no longer under the influence of pain medication
Go Back to Work – 5-7 days
Take a Shower – 3-4 days
Shave (if the incision is made through the armpit – 2 weeks
Sleep on my Side – one week
Sleep on my Stomach – at least a week, but many people find this position uncomfortable
Sleep on my Back- Immeditately
Wear a Bra with Underwire – If the implant is above the muscle, right away. If the implant is under the muscle, wait until they drop and settle into proper positioning.
Have intercourse – 2 weeks
Go Swimming - 3 weeks
Tan – 6 weeks
Are they going to look this big after the swelling goes down?
No. You will see your final result a few months after your procedure.
When should I start massaging?
1 week. Massaging anytime prior to that can cause bleeding.
If I don’t massage will I get a capsular contraction?
No, but massaging does reduce the risk.
What is a capsulectomy?
Removal of the capsule that has formed around the implant.
Am I still going to be able to get a mammogram?
Yes. Remember to inform your doctor that you have had a breast augmentation.
Will I loose sensation if I have my procedure done through the areola?
There is always the risk of losing sensation when you have a breast augmentation no matter where the incision site.
What will happen if my silicone implant ruptures?
The silicone implant holds together. In order to see whether your implant is ruptured you will need to have an MRI.
What will happen if my saline implant ruptures?
The implant deflates. The salt water is not harmful to the body.
Can breast implant cause cancer?
There are not any studies linking breast augmentation to cancer.
What is late calcification?
The hardening of capsule that naturally forms around the implant
What is my scar going to look like?
Scars typically appears as a faint white line. Scarring differs from person to person due to differences in ethnicity, pigmentation of the skin and the patient’s ability to heal.
Is silicone better now that is FDA approved?
Many patients prefer this implant because it has a more natural look and feel and typically lasts longer. One type of implant is not necessarily better than another. Consult with your doctor about which type of implant is best for you.
Will I hear the water moving if I get saline implants?
No.
What's the difference between moderate, high and moderate plus implants and which would be better for me?
Your doctor will discuss which option is best for you after examining your chest diameter.
How often will I have to replace my implants?
Not every patient will need to have their implants replaced. Typically saline implants need to be replaced sfter 10-15 years and saline implants need to be replaced after 15-15 years.
If I get bigger implants will that eliminate the need for a breast lift?
Larger implants can be a quick fix to avoid getting a breast lift, but it is not a permanent solution.
Will my breasts droop after breast feeding?
Yes. They will droop naturally just as if you had natural breasts.
Why is umbilical breast augmentation not recommended?
This procedure can be performed safely and produce excellent results; however this technique has increased risks including bleeding, scarring, and an increased chance of asymmetry.
