Breast augmentation is desired by many women with small or underdeveloped breasts. Many wish to simply enhance their appearance, while others seek an entirely new appearance. Other reasons for breast augmentation include balancing different breast sizes, correct breast volume after pregnancy and as a reconstructive technique after breast surgery. To do this, women may use a procedure called breast augmentation mammoplasty. Through breast augmentation, women are able to receive a whole new look that is aesthetically pleasing. The breast implants are placed directly under the chest wall muscle. Implants are then filled with saline or silicone. Saline (salt water) or silicone (gel) can be used. Women often have a high degree of satisfaction after breast augmentation surgery and the self-esteem benefits are evident for years to come. During breast augmentation surgery, small incisions may be made in a variety of places. These are small and located in areas that will be inconspicuous, such as in the arm pit, under the nipple or in the crease under the breast. An incision can also be made through the belly button. Through the arm pit and the belly button ensures that you will not end up with any visible scars on the breast. After inserting the implants, they are then filled with saline to achieve the shape and size desired. Breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia. The surgery will take place at one of our fully accredited surgery centers. The surgery lasts approximately an hour to two hours and most patients return to work within five to six days after the surgery. No special sutures will need to be removed, but surgical support bras are recommended. Exercise and strenuous activity should be avoided for about a month. Before you decide to have breast augmentation surgery, consider the process carefully as well as what your expectations are. The best candidates are those who are looking for improvement in the way they look. If you have realistic expectations, then you may be a good candidate for breast augmentation. Breast augmentation surgery is relatively straightforward and with any operation, there are risks associated with it. Be sure to arrange for transportation to get back home after the surgery and you may ask a friend or family member to help you out for a few days. Your doctor will be able to prepare you for what to expect during and after the surgery, as well as what the final result will be. |
